The Greek Islands – Mykonos

We were beginning to fear that we might get pregnant by osmosis, so after several days of romance and relaxation in Oia we packed up our bags, said goodbye to our gorgeous, authentic Airbnb, and flew to Mykonos, the uber popular party animal of the Greek islands.

Mykonos is part of the Cyclades, lying between Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos.  It is known for it’s party scene and instantly feels different from Santorini. The beach clubs are plentiful, the people are more scantily clad, and the energy is pulsating.

Although it’s nicknamed the Island of the winds,  feeling that a different nickname would be more fitting, I have re-christened Mykonos as the Island of the Beautiful Gays.

Based on the large numbers of 6 foot tall (at a minimum), svelte, tan, stunning gay men all over the island, I concluded that a travel advisory was issued shortly before our arrival, and by sheer luck we were allowed onto the island despite not meeting the qualifications.

Upon arrival, we wasted no time.

We day partied on Super Paradise beach and ate a spectacular seafood-centric meal at Nammos, feeling giddy with disbelief that we were able to snag a table at the famous restaurant, just as Sam Smith was being turned away.

We window shopped at the incredible luxury and designer stores lining nearly every cobblestone street in town. We took a late night bus to the famed, massive part-indoor, part-outdoor nightclub Cavo Paradiso where we were hit on by every man from Naples.

We finished the trip with a surreal night at Scorpios. Scorpios is an organic, gourmet open-air Greek restaurant that is part of Scorpios Beach Club. Full of incredible food, with views of a glorious fiery sunset over Scorpios beach, we were able to ogle the varied advances we as a human race have made in the delicate art of plastic surgery.

Mykonos and Santorini were better than I had imagined. The food was fresh and flavorful, the Greek coffee was strong, and the seascapes and sunsets were breathtaking.
